Células mononucleares da medula óssea no tratamento da ruptura total dos tendões flexores e ligamento suspensor do boleto em equino Arq. Bras. Med. Vet. Zootec.
Yamada,A.L.M.; Oliveira,P.G.G.; Carvalho,A.M.; Watanabe,M.J.; Hussni,C.A.; Alves,A.L.G..
This paper describes the case of a horse treated in a Teaching Veterinary Hospital. The sutures of the flexor apparatus associated with cell therapy, the stem cell, provided a rapid response of repair compared to other cases treated in routine of the Hospital. The association of conventional treatments with the mononuclear fraction of bone marrow significantly contributed to the reduction of the hyperextension of the metatarsophalangeal joint. Ultrasound images showed rapid fill cell and decrease in inflammation.

Clinical and morphological evaluation of snake venom derived fibrin glue on the tendon healing in dogs J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Ferraro,G. C.; Moraes,J. R. E.; Pereira,G. T.; Moraes,F. R.; Bueno de Camargo,M. H..
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of snake venom derived fibrin glue on the healing of the deep digital flexor tendon, during three periods. The tendon of the 2nd digit of 30 thoracic limbs of dogs was partially sectioned for glue application. Biopsies were performed 7, 15, and 30 days post surgery for the clinical and morphological study of tendons. Analysis of the results showed that 73.3% of the tendons showed stump retraction and 16.6% moderate to excessive adherence, which affected sliding. There was a significant difference in the number of inflammatory cells among the three studied periods, being the highest on day 15. The morphological analysis revealed a typical tendon healing process with a lower level of inflammation in the acute...

Effect of snake venom derived fibrin glue on the tendon healing in dogs: clinical and biomechanical study J. Venom. Anim. Toxins incl. Trop. Dis.
Ferraro,G. C.; Moraes,J. R.; Shimano,A. C.; Pereira,G. T.; Moraes,F. R.; Bueno de Camargo,M. H..
The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of snake venom derived fibrin glue on the strength oftendon healing in dogs. The deep digital flexor tendon of the 5th digit of 24 thoracic limbs was partially sectioned for adhesive application. On the 7th, 15th, and 30th postoperative day tendons segments were removed for the clinical and biomechanical study. Results indicated that 62.5% of the tendons showed stump retraction and 20.8% moderate to excessive adherence, which affected gliding. The biomechanical evaluation showed that, over time, tendon healing gained progressive resistance for maximum traction and permanent deformations with satisfactory results on the 15th day for rigidity and resilience compared to the other two studied periods. Snake...

Effects of two different deep digital flexor tenotomy techniques on distal articular angles of equine cadaver forelimbs Ciência Rural
Dearo,Antonio Cezar de Oliveira; Rosa,Vitor Bruno Bianconi; Reichmann,Peter; Oliveira,Milton Luis Ribeiro de.
Deep digital flexor (DDF) tenotomy is a technique employed for years to treat selected disorders of the musculoskeletal system in horses. Although two different surgical approaches (i.e. mid-metacarpal and pastern) have been described for performing the procedure, in vitro quantitative data regarding the modifications induced by either technique on the distal articular angles is lacking. Therefore, the purpose of the study reported here was to investigate the viability of a proposed biomechanical system of induced-traction used to compare the two DDF tenotomy techniques by measuring the distal articular angles of equine cadaver forelimbs. Ten pairs of forelimbs were collected and mounted to a biomechanical system developed to apply traction at the toe...

Local inhibition of nitrergic activity in tenotomized rats accelerates muscle regeneration by increasing fiber area and decreasing central core lesions BJMBR
Seabra,A.D.; Moraes,S.A.S.; Batista,E.J.O.; Garcia,T.B.; Souza,M.C.; Oliveira,K.R.M.; Herculano,A.M..
Muscular atrophy is a progressive degeneration characterized by muscular proteolysis, loss of mass and decrease in fiber area. Tendon rupture induces muscular atrophy due to an intrinsic functional connection. Local inhibition of nitric oxide synthase (NOS) by Nω-nitro-L-arginine methyl ester (L-NAME) accelerates tendon histological recovery and induces functional improvement. Here we evaluate the effects of such local nitrergic inhibition on the pattern of soleus muscle regeneration after tenotomy. Adult male Wistar rats (240 to 280 g) were divided into four experimental groups: control (n=4), tenotomized (n=6), vehicle (n=6), and L-NAME (n=6). Muscular atrophy was induced by calcaneal tendon rupture in rats. Changes in muscle wet weight and total protein...

Moraes,Julieta Rodini Engrácia de; Fávaro,Andresa Fabiana; Shimano,Antônio Carlos; Ferraro,Gisela Cristiane; Moraes,Flávio Ruas de.
Regarding the complexity of healing tendon and the factors that interfere with this, the aim of this study was to evaluate the comparison between the suture materials. Canine flexor digitorum profundus (FDP) tendons were collected from nine healthy mongreal adult dogs. The 18 thoracic FDP were randomly selected in three groups of tendons submited of tenotomy and tenorraphy using Prolene®, Nylon® e Vicryl®. The diameter 6.0 for epitendon and 4.0 for endotendon. The tendons were then repaired using one of suture material with the modified Kessler technique. The study was divided in two ensays. Ensay1: The tendons repaired were tested in Assay Universal Machine and were evaluate the biomechanical properties refering to Maximum Limit (ML), Elasticity Limit...

Swimming exercise changed the collagen synthesis and calcification in calcaneal tendons of mice Anais da ABC (AABC)
CARVALHO,ANGELA A. M.; MOURA,FRANCYELLE B. R. DE; NOGUEIRA,PEDRO AUGUSTO S.; GONÇALVES,ALINE MARIA N.; ARAÚJO,FERNANDA A.; ZANON,RENATA G.; TOMIOSSO,TATIANA CARLA.
Abstract Obesity is characterized by the excess of body fat and, therefore, may cause musculoskeletal alterations that can negatively influence the tendons. Such overweight-influenced alterations are exercise sensitive though. Morphological and biochemical alterations were reported in the calcaneal tendon of mice submitted to a lipid-rich diets along with practicing exercises, with the following groups: normal diet without exercise (ND), normal diet with exercise (NDex), lipid-rich diet without exercise (LD), lipid-rich diet without exercise (LDex). The calcaneal tendons were removed and subjected to histological and biochemical analysis. Layers of the tissue were stained with Hematoxylin and Eosin, Picrosirius Red and Von Kossa while a protein dosage was...

The cross-sectional area of the superficial digital flexor tendon of trained and untrained Thoroughbred racehorses Ciência Rural
Reis,Ana Guiomar Matos Santiago; Baccarin,Raquel Yvonne Arantes.
Twenty Thoroughbred racehorses were ultrasonographically evaluated to determine the relation between normal values of the cross-sectional area (CSA) of the right and left forelimbs superficial digital flexor tendons (SDFT) in the metacarpal region for trained and untrained Thoroughbreds racehorses. Ultrasonography revealed that CSA at 26cm distal to the accessory carpal bone is larger than other proximal levels, for either left or right forelimbs. In addition, the CSA at 2, 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 and 14cm distal to the accessory carpal bone of the left forelimb are larger (P<0.05) for trained horses when compared with untrained horses. On the other hand, there was no significant difference (P>0.05) between left and right forelimb for CSA of the SDFT, at...
